Everybodies Talkin' at Me, Can't Hear a Word Their Sayin'...

In his latest speech on Tuesday, the POTUS says yet again that criticism of the war is giving our enemies comfort and that criticism of the war might hurt chances of getting to congress during this year of midterm elections.

The president labasting his critics (whom he grouped into the very large and inaccurate set of people who thought we went to war for oil, people who thought we went to war for reasons relating to Israel, and people who think that he manipulated pre-war intelligence) proved that he and his ilk are living in a fantasy world where the minor successes we make in Iraq far outweigh all the losses we are not only causing ourselves but to the people of Iraq. What if we never went to Iraq? It's a question I think about all the time. Would we have been attacked again, this time from an enemy located someplace other than Afghanistan (what ever happened to Afghanistan anyway, looking at the media you would think it never existed) or would we have been more equipped financially to deal with the many blows this country has taken during this useless war? Unfortunately we will never know and we must own up to the situation we are in, hated globally, financially strapped and militarily weakening (relatively). Yes, this war with Iraq was TOTALLY worth it.

Quote from the Article:

He said he welcomed "honest critics" who question the way the war is being conducted and the "loyal opposition" that points out what is wrong with his administration's approach..."

How is this different then the people who criticize the war that he DOES NOT agree with?

"...But he termed irresponsible the "partisan critics who claim that we acted in Iraq because of oil or because of Israel or because we misled the American people," as well as "defeatists who refuse to see that anything is right."

(This does not make any sense, he welcomes honest critics but thinks that critics are undermining the war effort and our troops abroad. Which one is it? Apparently there are honest critics and dishonest critics, I guess your a dishonest critic if you say something that blows back all his rhetoric and his own dishonesty)

The reasons for this war have changed everytime the reason for it became invalid. Remember WMD's? That was reason 1. The government said they are going to attack us, they are preparing to build bombs and blow up more of our stuff. They are in cahoots with Al-Quaida and they must be stopped immediately. All these reasons seemed pretty compelling during the time of confusion following 9/11, but as these reasons thinned out like the mists of a sunny morning, new reasons were found that again justified the initial onset of violence we sent there. Now that there were no WMD's to speak of and ties to Al-Quaida proved to be false, we were there to "liberate" the Iraqi people from the evil Tyrant known as Saddam. Did not know we could just go and remove people for no reason. Sure its been done in the past, but in secret with nice and neat assassinations so that people could not be outraged at the US, not publicly at least. Now we are establishing "democracy" and spreading it throughout the Middle East.

The plan itself is not that bad, establish a more fairer government for the people stuck under the thumb of dictator like theocratic law. The problems arise in how we are actually going to do that. For those not following the Iraqi elections, it has been rumored and it's most likely true that the Shi'ite factions won most of the parlimentary seats (there has been talk of voter fraud and intimidation throughout Iraq which would explain a minority of people winning a majority of the seats). Now we are asking a very religious and vigorous group (formerly oppressed by Saddam's Sunni bathist regime, and not very friendly towards America and our noble ideals) to establish a fair government that takes care of those that used to be in the majority. How likely is that to happen? In my opinion not very likely, in fact most signs point to a brewing civil war between the Sunni's, Kurds, and Shi'ite populations of a now free but broken Iraq. Sweet, operation Iraqi freedom is a success, mission accomplished and all that jazzz...

A freind and I were talking yesterday about the inability of the American people to WAKE THE FUCK UP. While all eyes were on us in 2004 we idiotically elected a man BACK into office when it was apparent that we were hoodwinked on the iraq war. This alone should have been enough to throw him out, yet people still voted for him citing other reasons why he should be in office (Gay Marriage, abortion and the economy to name a few). You selfish bastards. Is it really so important to you that gay people not be able to marry that you would keep someone in power who knowingly or not, lied to you? With this whole wiretapping scandal I can't see how there is even a small debate on the question of impeachment. It should be freakin' obvious. We impeach a man because he got a blowjob at his desk and lied about it, but we keep one from impeachment that has led us into a now apparent bogus war, and that would be only one of his many offenses.

Let's take a hypothetical situation which will represent the Iraq debacle and see how you respond to it.

Your family is in great despair when you find out your Dad is dying of Terminal Lung cancer. He is not that sick yet, still ok to walk around and talk and such, but his time is limited, he might even end up dying slow and painful death. One day your dad is out, happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets fingered for a murder you and your family know he did not commit. During the trial there is enough evidence to refute the charges, but the jury is furious because the person killed was a mother carrying a child and they need someone to blame. So they convict your dad and sentence him to death. Some months after his is killed DNA evidence proves it was not him, outraged you speak out against the court system, the jurors and anyone else who had a hand in his death. The comeback of these people instead of trying to make ammends to the situation is "well he had the cancer and he might have died a painful death anyway, so its better we killed him now when it was painless". How would you react?

Well in that Situation, your dad is Iraq, the courst system is the American Government, the Iraqi people are you and your family, Saddam would be the lung cancer and that poor pregnant woman is 9/11. This whole administration is a sham, it would be nice if people in this country started recognizing it for that and nothing more.

Myspace is Our Space...

Check out this article on myspace censorship. Actually I would not call it censorship so much as myspace trying to create a monopoly where there should be none. There has been a rash of website trickery going on recently, makes me wonder about how people are manipulating the "magic" of the internet. Most of these things might be able to be chalked up to pure coincidence but when is it going to stop being coincidental and start being real (thanks MTV)?

This
news is pretty old but I don't think I ever posted it (thanks go out to Pinto for orginially sending me the story). I will say it here, while I don't practice as much as I should I am muslim and I find this totally absurd. There is NOTHING that anyone can say to me to tell me that this is a rationale reason for outrage among the muslim community. You must be LOOKING for something to get angry about in order to find this offensive. The thing is its not like there is a shortage for things to be mad about with regards to western culture for the muslim community. I mean the whole "towel heads" comment could fuel an angry mob for at least a year, but a graphical symbol turned 90 degrees counter clockwise is the what is getting people's goats (no pun intended, for those that don't even know why there would be a pun, look up Eid Ul- Adha). Take a look at the photo below.

I was just reading about the ten most important people in video games and I came across this picture:

I thought it was just as hot as all the stupid geeks out there so I decided to post. Ahh, yes my dream girl (not really...)

Greetings and Happy New Year!

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 05 Januari 2006 0 komentar
The beginning of a new year is always weird. People feel the need to re-invent themselves or change habits simply because they have a whole year to do something. They also had the previous years to improve upon whatever they wanted to improve on, but that does not matter since this the new year this is the ripest time to affect change in one's life. I am doing the same thing, adjusting my habitual ways and looking to be a different Adeola than I was last year. It's not a bad thing, its just weird that we find this need magically after an arbitrary amount of time has passed. By the way I just turned 25 and it feels good. Thank you for your Birthday wishes in advance. On with the Show...

Ok just kidding. Blogger is being ridiculous and slow, so the news is going to have to wait. It's a shame too because I have some pretty sweet pix I wanted to put up, but I guess its going to have to wait.

Oh let me take this time to change my opinion about myspace.com. I will not take my foot out of mouth to say that after comparing myspace to friendster I realized I was pretty wrong about myspace. It is a little bit more match friendly, its 10x faster than friendster and the customization of pages (eventhough I have not really gotten into it) is much better as well. Sorry friendster but you lost this one.

Why MySpace?! Also Kids dumber than Chimps...

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 16 Desember 2005 0 komentar
There has been a serious swelling of people involved in the social networking site myspace.com, and I am seriously perplexed as to why. I have been involved in a social networking site for about 2.5 years now (Friendster) but all of a sudden everyone and there mothers are on myspace. I've asked people "but what about Friendster, they were around for awhile before any of these other sites (myspace, facebook) were out and now they get no love". Most answer I see center around myspace more mature themed site, although I don't know how that's possible since the site and service is nothing more than the members that make it up, somehow I guess more "adults" have gotten on myspace making it the more adult networking site. Bah I say, friendster was and is still awesome. At the behest of my friends however I jumped onto myspace and created a profile and have not been back since. To create my profile I simply cut and pasted my friendster profile over to the appropriate myspace categories. I think I am just bitter because it was hard enough wasting time on Friendster but now there is another site that I should, in theory, keep up to date and checking. These sites are great things to fill some dead time at work or at home when one is bored, but my plate is full of such sites and it seems I cannot possibly keep up with all of them. I see why people who just report on goings on in the "blogosphere" even have a job.

In other news, I just finished an article about
Children versus Chimps with regards to learning and imitation. RTA for more details. The short story, Kids imitate to learn while chimps look at the end goal and do what it takes to get to the solution. The article tries to explain why learning by imitation is not only better or at least not worse than the chimp method, but also what makes us uniquely human. I really don't have much background in child psych or psych in general, but at face value I can't see how this experiment demonstrated learning by imitation to be a superior method. After you read the article, leave a comment and tell me what you think. This just seems like humans are hard wired to do what they see all the time and not look at what their actions are actually achieving.

Its funny that I should read this
article only a few days after I saw the movie "S1MONE" which had oodles of potential but ultimately was not that great of a movie (it might have had something to do with the contrast between the idea of a digital actor and 42" LCD screens and the computer the sim was on still having and using a 5 1/4" floppy drive). Apparently we are not so far off of a S1mone-esque reality where digital actors can actually be used. This article is total fiction but it is done well, and with the pace of technology these days, I guess this is not so far off.

Isn't It Random?!

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 09 Desember 2005 0 komentar
First, check this thing out.

Yes it is for real. It's an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) reader that prints on your toilet paper. I think this is a little much. I mean I love tech, Most things that could be teched out should be, but Toilet paper. The best is apparently you can get a seat cover that can identify you by your weight and ass print and print out your feeds specifically. Out of control. Well now you can wipe your ass with the latest CNN Bush Poll Numbers, literally.

In the latest news about how the Army of Crazed Christians have been offended, they have picked their overlord GW Bush as their next target. Bush in an effort to not offend anyone has been sending out Christmas Cards that use the phrase "Happy Holidays" versus "Merry Christmas". I get what GW is trying to do, its actually pretty noble. It's difficult to keep track of everyone various religious affiliations so he sends out a message that works for all holidays. You would think that the people who are lambasting him for his caving in to liberal notions would applaud him for trying to be so understanding and tolerant of others, as is the Christian way as I understand it. Nope, they are just pissed that they and the holiday that they celebrate is not singled out as better than everyone else's. I mean its not good enough that the entire nation takes off to honor a holiday that is very non-secular and that the entire country goes into a totally different mode to celebrate it, they must have all the cards they get point to it and no other holiday that maybe happening at the same time and that other people might be celebrating. Isn't this just a bit selfish. To take a step back and look at the big picture and realize that some people might be offended by a "Merry Christmas" card is too much for them. Personally I celebrate Christmas and am not Christian and would not be offended by a Merry Christmas card, but some people would and I commend GW (take note, this is one of the few time this is going to happen) for trying to be all inclusive here.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad and all the other good stuff out there. And remember folks, Chris died for your sins... (you really have to see that Show "Weeds" to appreciate that one)

The Teenager Whistle...

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 01 Desember 2005 0 komentar
Greetings from beyond everyone, it has been a few weeks since my last entry but I have returned. Blogs are really funny things, you can be all about them and write in them all the time, but skip a week and its just as easy to skip four more, I honestly don't know what it is. I also don't get paid for this or anything so the only thing compelling me to write is my willingness to have the public eye on my words, perhaps to get some feedback, mayhaps not. Anyway, on with the show...

I read something today that really shocked me, more because someone actually had the idea rather than it actually working. This article comes from CNet, but takes place in Wales where teenage loitering is SO rampant that this guy has come up with a High Frequency Teenager whistle that emits a high frequency sound people under 20 can here, but people over 30 find inaudible, supposedly. This is not an exact science here, even though its proven that you lose your ability to hear high frequency sounds as you grow older, the change is pretty slow going so its not like one day you wake up and your immune to high frequency sounds. The idea is innovative though and supposedly works. RTFA, there are some pretty choice quotes in there.

And another update in the battle that is Intelligent Design. In this story a couple is suing UC Berkeley because they believe a website that seeks to explain envolutionary theory to students favors one religion (The religion of evolution??) over others (I did not know evolution was a religion). This couples says that the web site which speaks about other religions and there ability to co-exist with the theory of evolution is improperly swaying students to accept evolution as true when it most certainly has many flaws. I love this shit, this has now gotten to a point where a couple is calling evolution itself a sort of religion and bashing it because it is promoting itself over other religions. If you read this I am sure you will be confused because the whole notion makes no sense.

I recently read an article in Harpers magazine that talks about how ID proponents are using persuasive and definitive left wing arguments to support the idea of ID. Using phrases like knowledge and understanding is never ever set or steadfast and that it must always be challenged, they say the argument for ID CANNOT be thrown out because of the necessity to have differing viewpoints in the academic circle. This is a very compelling argument, but it is really knocked on its head when the author of the article points out that when scholars and men made these statements it was implicit that the arguments brought to challenge whatever theory it was going to challenge would have validation from the peers that were in discussion of the theory in question. Basically if you want to refute a theory by putting it up against another one, the theory that you bring with you cannot be seen as ludicrous and a waste of time by the people that are involved in the debate. This would seem obvious to most rational people without an agenda.

I wrote in a post a long time ago that I also had a theory of evolution that involved us coming from a super intelligent race of sea monkeys. If I raised this as a real theory opposing evolution I would be laughed at, things might even be thrown. Before you say that my theory and ID are vastly different, take a close look at both of them. Neither have any substantial proof and are based on speculation and fantasy. I am not trying to knock any religion or its story of creation, but once you put things into the context of scientific theory you open yourself up to a whole lot of examination that many semi valid theories cannot withstand, much less the theory of ID or Seamonkeyism.
